Iranian film ‘Arvand’ wins award in Indian festival

Iranian film ‘Arvand’ is honored at the 9th Jaipur International Film Festival in India.

The 9th edition of the Jaipur International Film Festival (JIFF) in India has presented an award to Iranian film ‘Arvand’.

The festival’s website recently announced that ‘Arvand’ by Iranian filmmaker Pouria Azarbaijani received the Best War and Peace Film award of the Feature Film Category.

The film is about the 175 Iranian divers, most of whom are believed to have been buried alive in scattered mass graves in Iraq during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war.

It is narrated by a veteran soldier, Younes, when he goes to recover the bodies of war victims and starts recounting his war memories after 27 years.

Iranian movie ‘Inversion’ by Behnam Behzadi also nabbed two awards at the Indian festival.

The Jaipur International Film Festival, the world's fastest growing film festival, is held every year in January or February in Jaipur, India.

According to festival announcement forums, “Launched in January 2009, Jaipur International Film Festival (JIFF) became expanding establishing name in organizing world film festival every year in Rajasthan.”

The purpose of this film festival is to promote new movie makers, exchange of knowledge, information, ideas and culture between India and other nations in context of their social and cultural ethos, the forums also note.

The 9th edition of the Jaipur International Film Festival (JIFF) was held on January 7-11, 2017.
